'Coaching' U4, U5, U6 soccer is less 'coaching' and more 'leading cats' 😉This program is a parented program, meaning the child's partner is their parent, and the leaders on field are responsible for setting up the activities and helping guide all the parents/ players through it. It is 30-45 minutes of controlled chaos - think everyone with a ball playing tag and other fun games! All leaders are given training:ksysa.ca/coaching/All leaders are provided with plans to use.ksysa.ca/wp-content/uploads/sites/1307/2025/04/Soccer-Canada-U6-Active-Start-Plans.pdfPlease reach out to help on field so we can get these kids chasing balls like cats chase lasers! ... What’s involved in coaching Mini Soccer? Do I need to know soccer?Great news: you do NOT need to know soccer. Like, at all. ⚽😄Coaching Mini Soccer with Kootenay South Youth Soccer Association is about enthusiasm, smiles, and helping kids fall in love with moving their bodies—not perfect drills or fancy footwork. We provide all the training, session plans, and support, so you’re never left wondering what to do. Your main job is to:-Show up on time-Encourage the kids-Keep things safe and positive-Be willing to laugh, play, and maybe chase a few runaway ballsIf you can cheer, give high-fives, and help kids have fun, you’re already overqualified. 🙌Soccer experience is optional. A willingness to have fun is required.Bonus perks include happy kids, fresh air, and the very real chance you’ll go home smiling after every session. ... See MoreSee Less

A follow up to our earring post from Monday ... We contacted BC Soccer for any additional info and here it is:'The "No Jewellery" policy is a fundamental safety requirement dictated by the International Football Association Board (IFAB) under Law 4 of the Laws of the Game. This is a global standard applied to all sanctioned soccer matches, from local youth leagues to the professional level. The primary concern is the physical safety of both the wearer and their opponents. In a high-intensity contact sport like soccer, items such as rings, bracelets, or necklaces can catch on jerseys or hair, leading to severe injuries like lacerations. Also, hard objects like watches or studs can cause significant bruising or eye injuries to other players during a challenge or a header. Also, FIFA and the IFAB clarified several years ago that taping is not an acceptable substitute for removal. Tape does not prevent a stud from being pushed into the head or neck upon impact, nor does it fully eliminate the risk of an item being snagged. And we are not alone! Rugby has the same rules to keep all players safe!Soccer Laws of the game: downloads.theifab.com/downloads/laws-of-the-game-2025-26-single-pages?l=enRugby Laws of the game: passport.world.rugby/media/jxrnmptk/2026en-laws-of-the-game-compressed.pdf ... ’Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the pitch,Not a player was moving, not even the sub bench. The jerseys were hung in the locker with care,In hopes that Saint Football soon would be there. The players were nestled all snug in their beds,While visions of trophies danced in their heads. With coach in his cap and I with my cleats,We’d just settled down from our post-practice eats. When out on the field there arose such a clatter,I sprang from the stands to see what was the matter.Away to the goal I flew like a flash,Past cones and past nets and a midfield hash. The moon on the grass of the freshly cut lawnGave a glow to the pitch late Christmas Eve dawn. When what to my wondering eyes should appear,But a jolly old coach with a whistle and gear! With a quick little warm-up, so lively and quick,I knew in a moment—it must be St. Nick!More rapid than wingers his players they came,And he whistled and shouted and called them by name:“Now Striker! Now Goalie! Now Center and Back!On Winger! On Sweeper! Defend and attack! To the top of the box! To the end of the wall! Now pass away! Pass away! Give it your all!”Like leaves that before the wild press fly,When they meet with a challenge, they lift it up high.So up to the net-top the players they flew,With a ball full of hopes—and St. Nicholas too.And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the turfThe dribbling and passing of each nimble footwork burst. As I drew in my head and was turning around,Down the sideline St. Nick came with a bound. He was dressed all in red, from his hat to his socks,And his kit was all grass-stained from tackles and blocks.A bag full of balls he had flung on his back,And he looked like a manager ready to attack. His eyes—how they twinkled! His dimples, how merry! His cheeks were like goalposts, his nose like a cherry. His droll little grin was drawn up like a bow,And the beard on his chin was as white as the snow.He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,Filled boots with new studs—no cheap plastic or murk. And laying his finger aside of his nose,He gave a quick nod, and upfield he rose.He sprang to the sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,And away they all flew like a perfectly hit missile. But I heard him exclaim, as he crossed midfield light:“Happy Christmas to all— play fair and play bright!” ... When you register you might have questions about the birth year versus the age. The registration form is set up so that all players are registered by birth year, so as long as you have the correct birth year they will end up in the right program! The 'Ages' is in reference to how old they are right now. So one child born in Feb 2012, is currently 13 years old, but will turn 14 in February 2026. Another child who is born end of December 2012 is currently 12, turns 13 this month, and will turn 14 before the end of 2026. Clear as mud?!?!Register by birth year, and players will be rostered to their appropriate teams when the season starts! ... See MoreSee Less
