Sideline Conversations - #3 - who decided this ... I don't understand where this comes from ... why is this the way it is ...To understand why KSYSA does the things they do, you only need to refer to our Strategic Plan. This guides our board/committees to try and focus what we do to reduce volunteer burnout.Go for a deep dive here: ksysa.ca/about-us/ ... See MoreSee Less

Sideline Conversation - #2 - where do these rules come from ... why do some kids throw in and others kick in .... what is a retreat line and why do they use it ... why are some kids playing 7v7 and others play 9v9...KSYSA amalgamated in 2022, and became a BC Soccer Licensed Quality Soccer Provider soon after. KSYSA started aligning with Grassroots Guidelines and BC Soccer Policy to ensure we maintain our Quality Soccer License.Go for a deep dive here: canadasoccer.com/wp-content/uploads/resources/grassroots/2024-CS-GrassrootsStandards-EN.pdf ... Sideline Conversations - #1 - Why isn't soccer like it used to be ... When I was a kid soccer was different ... This isn't how it was when I used to play ...Science, research, and decades of experience all point to the same thing: kids and adults will get active, stay active, and even reach the greatest heights of sport achievement if they do the right things at the right times. This is the logic behind the Long-Term Development Framework (LTD).KSYSA follows the science by implementing programs that meet BC Soccer Guidelines!Go for a deep dive here: sportforlife.ca/long-term-development/ ... What’s involved in coaching Mini Soccer? Do I need to know soccer?Great news: you do NOT need to know soccer. Like, at all. ⚽😄Coaching Mini Soccer with Kootenay South Youth Soccer Association is about enthusiasm, smiles, and helping kids fall in love with moving their bodies—not perfect drills or fancy footwork. We provide all the training, session plans, and support, so you’re never left wondering what to do. Your main job is to:-Show up on time-Encourage the kids-Keep things safe and positive-Be willing to laugh, play, and maybe chase a few runaway ballsIf you can cheer, give high-fives, and help kids have fun, you’re already overqualified. 🙌Soccer experience is optional. A willingness to have fun is required.Bonus perks include happy kids, fresh air, and the very real chance you’ll go home smiling after every session. ... See MoreSee Less

A follow up to our earring post from Monday ... We contacted BC Soccer for any additional info and here it is:'The "No Jewellery" policy is a fundamental safety requirement dictated by the International Football Association Board (IFAB) under Law 4 of the Laws of the Game. This is a global standard applied to all sanctioned soccer matches, from local youth leagues to the professional level. The primary concern is the physical safety of both the wearer and their opponents. In a high-intensity contact sport like soccer, items such as rings, bracelets, or necklaces can catch on jerseys or hair, leading to severe injuries like lacerations. Also, hard objects like watches or studs can cause significant bruising or eye injuries to other players during a challenge or a header. Also, FIFA and the IFAB clarified several years ago that taping is not an acceptable substitute for removal. Tape does not prevent a stud from being pushed into the head or neck upon impact, nor does it fully eliminate the risk of an item being snagged. And we are not alone! Rugby has the same rules to keep all players safe!Soccer Laws of the game: downloads.theifab.com/downloads/laws-of-the-game-2025-26-single-pages?l=enRugby Laws of the game: passport.world.rugby/media/jxrnmptk/2026en-laws-of-the-game-compressed.pdf ...
