Twice a week and lots of fun!
Parents are always wondering where the kids will be playing. It is always dependant on registration numbers, volunteer coaches and field availability. ![]()
![]()
Our intent is to create schedules that are in the best interest of the players and families, but we generally don't know this until we are closer to registration closing dates.
It’s cool to see support for female athletes across the region and in sport!This photo says it all! It has been a milestone, record breaking year here at GTMHA for females in hockey. Whether they play on a mixed or all-female team, us here at GTMHA could not be more proud to host a total of 80 amazing young female athletes this season!![]()

It’s a year to celebrate for sure. This season for the first time ever we have hosted all-female teams in our younger divisions U7 and U9, this making up four teams which also include our U13 and U18 Wildcats hosted here in Trail of all females. On top of those all-female teams, we also have multiple other ladies that play on our rep and mixed house teams. All these young ladies have truly shown great ambition and love for the game, female strength, and true athleticism.![]()

There are also other Trail female players that are playing in other associations this season including the Castlegar U15 Wildcats, WK Crusaders, academies, collages and universities from all over. Some Trail native players have gone as far as playing around the world and some now even coach at the university level. GTMHA will always be proud to cheer them all on in all their successes. ![]()

We would like to take a moment and thank those that have worked so hard in the past, present, and future to keep the love of females in hockey alive not only here in Trail, but the West Kootenays! Seeing the growth in our little area, shows how much all the hard work can pay off. ![]()

The Tim Hortons Timbits Sports Program is a community-oriented program that provides opportunities for kids aged four to eight to play house league hockey and soccer. The philosophy of the program is not based on winning or losing, but on learning a new sport, making new friends and just being a kid.![]()

Tim Hortons provides jerseys, along with participation medals and other items, to Timbits players in local hockey and soccer associations across the country. Last year alone, more than 300,000 boys and girls were proudly supported through Timbits Sports.![]()

Note: The one day is actually 7 1/2 hours and not 6 as shown. Approval for the Small Sided hopefully will be Wednesday this week of February 10. The small Sided course will be April 5 starting at 9am. Entry Level courses are also coming with a whole new program set to be released on by March 1. Registration for Entry level probably will not be until after March 1 due to this work needing to be done.
Our children's recreational soccer program is at risk of being reduced due to a critical shortage of volunteer coaches. ![]()

While we understand everyone is busy, coaching requires just 2-3 hours per week and no prior soccer experience is needed. The league provides all training, equipment, and support.![]()

Without additional parent volunteers, we'll be forced to reduce the number of teams and take kids based on volunteer parents and by registration date. ![]()

This season we are offering girls programming at all age groups!![]()
![]()
A few years ago KSYSA started piloting girls recreation programs in Trail and found great success with it. Last season, we formally started the U10 girls recreation league with great results (see photos). This year, we decided to expand the opportunity to all age groups. Proceeding with this opportunity is dependent on registration numbers and volunteer coaches.![]()

For the U6 category, as per Soccer Canada Grassroots Standards, there are no formal soccer games so the girls groups mean that the 'teams' will be formed as girls only and do their activities together at their home field - no travel.![]()
![]()
For the U8 category, there are options on how the season is set up. In our experience, the girls teams do not want to play the boys/co-ed teams, so the girls teams play each other. In Trail we were able to form 2 girls teams, and they played each other all season. It may have felt repetitive to the parents, but the girls were happy. If the children requested to play the boys/co-ed teams, that would be an option too. These field times are also at their home field - no travel.![]()

For U10 girls, it is registration, field and volunteer dependant. Last year the Rossland and Trail girls played together at Pople Park in Trail, BV had a team, and Castlegar had a roster that filled 2 teams! They practiced on their home field and played a couple of games away (within KSYSA).![]()

There is also a Mini Girls Soccer Day, scheduled for May 22 this season, where all the U8 and U10 girls groups come to Pople Park in Trail and play a bunch of mini games as a special event.![]()

When registering, parents can choose to register their daughter in either the Girls or Boys/Co-Ed program, and if your child changes their mind we can accommodate that.![]()

Our goal is to provide programs for all youth to have a sense of belonging, improve their skills, enjoy their time and thrive!![]()

For families unable to pay fees, there are Financial Aid programs available through Canadian Tire Jumpstart, KidSport and Athletics for Kids.![]()

Also to note, that we will have installment payments as an option when registering!
Becoming a coach is important for many reasons:![]()

1. You are helping create positive sport experiences for children and youth which, hopefully, leads to them being active for life.![]()
2. You help keep our fees low! More coaches means ... more kids can participate means ... we aren't pressured to increase fees to cover costs.![]()
![]()
Check the coach or assistant coach box when you register your child this month. It reduces the amount of time our administrative volunteers have to track people down to coach AND it means we can open up the waitlists sooner!![]()

If your child wants to play with girls only make sure to register her for our Girls divisions! Otherwise, she can register and play on the boys / co-ed teams.
The KSYSA Board completed strategic planning in 2024 and we are excited to share our vision, mission and values with you. These statements drive our discussion and decisions and we are excited to see this season unfold with these as our base.
We know there are questions about what the 2024 season will look like! We are developing plans as we speak and will post over the next two weeks to give you the information you need to register for the right program for your child!

Parents are always wondering where the kids will be playing. It is always dependant on registration numbers, volunteer coaches and field availability. ![]()

Our intent is to create schedules that are in the best interest of the players and families, but we generally don't know this until we are closer to registration closing dates.
It’s cool to see support for female athletes across the region and in sport!This photo says it all! It has been a milestone, record breaking year here at GTMHA for females in hockey. Whether they play on a mixed or all-female team, us here at GTMHA could not be more proud to host a total of 80 amazing young female athletes this season!![]()

It’s a year to celebrate for sure. This season for the first time ever we have hosted all-female teams in our younger divisions U7 and U9, this making up four teams which also include our U13 and U18 Wildcats hosted here in Trail of all females. On top of those all-female teams, we also have multiple other ladies that play on our rep and mixed house teams. All these young ladies have truly shown great ambition and love for the game, female strength, and true athleticism.![]()

There are also other Trail female players that are playing in other associations this season including the Castlegar U15 Wildcats, WK Crusaders, academies, collages and universities from all over. Some Trail native players have gone as far as playing around the world and some now even coach at the university level. GTMHA will always be proud to cheer them all on in all their successes. ![]()

We would like to take a moment and thank those that have worked so hard in the past, present, and future to keep the love of females in hockey alive not only here in Trail, but the West Kootenays! Seeing the growth in our little area, shows how much all the hard work can pay off. ![]()

While we understand everyone is busy, coaching requires just 2-3 hours per week and no prior soccer experience is needed. The league provides all training, equipment, and support.![]()

This season we are offering girls programming at all age groups!![]()
![]()
A few years ago KSYSA started piloting girls recreation programs in Trail and found great success with it. Last season, we formally started the U10 girls recreation league with great results (see photos). This year, we decided to expand the opportunity to all age groups. Proceeding with this opportunity is dependent on registration numbers and volunteer coaches.![]()

For the U6 category, as per Soccer Canada Grassroots Standards, there are no formal soccer games so the girls groups mean that the 'teams' will be formed as girls only and do their activities together at their home field - no travel.![]()
![]()
For the U8 category, there are options on how the season is set up. In our experience, the girls teams do not want to play the boys/co-ed teams, so the girls teams play each other. In Trail we were able to form 2 girls teams, and they played each other all season. It may have felt repetitive to the parents, but the girls were happy. If the children requested to play the boys/co-ed teams, that would be an option too. These field times are also at their home field - no travel.![]()

For U10 girls, it is registration, field and volunteer dependant. Last year the Rossland and Trail girls played together at Pople Park in Trail, BV had a team, and Castlegar had a roster that filled 2 teams! They practiced on their home field and played a couple of games away (within KSYSA).![]()

There is also a Mini Girls Soccer Day, scheduled for May 22 this season, where all the U8 and U10 girls groups come to Pople Park in Trail and play a bunch of mini games as a special event.![]()

When registering, parents can choose to register their daughter in either the Girls or Boys/Co-Ed program, and if your child changes their mind we can accommodate that.![]()

Our goal is to provide programs for all youth to have a sense of belonging, improve their skills, enjoy their time and thrive!![]()

Becoming a coach is important for many reasons:![]()

1. You are helping create positive sport experiences for children and youth which, hopefully, leads to them being active for life.![]()
2. You help keep our fees low! More coaches means ... more kids can participate means ... we aren't pressured to increase fees to cover costs.![]()

Check the coach or assistant coach box when you register your child this month. It reduces the amount of time our administrative volunteers have to track people down to coach AND it means we can open up the waitlists sooner!![]()

If your child wants to play with girls only make sure to register her for our Girls divisions! Otherwise, she can register and play on the boys / co-ed teams.
The KSYSA Board completed strategic planning in 2024 and we are excited to share our vision, mission and values with you. These statements drive our discussion and decisions and we are excited to see this season unfold with these as our base.
We know there are questions about what the 2024 season will look like! We are developing plans as we speak and will post over the next two weeks to give you the information you need to register for the right program for your child!

We are hoping by communicating early, we will be able to inspire parents to say 'yes' to volunteering when they register their children. We want to make sure we can open up as many spots as there are kids this spring!
We could not function without our volunteers! Our coach base is what keeps kids on field and we are always scrambling to get adults in place before the season starts. ![]()

Skills, ability and experience range for our volunteer coaches from never coaching or playing soccer to being highly experienced. Soccer coaching is a low barrier way to give back to our community.![]()

We will be updating our registration system to Team Snap and will have a new website ready soon! A great deal of time and effort has gone into shaping these plans, and we kindly ask for your patience as we implement new systems.![]()

Due to the high volume of rain in the last day, we are CLOSING Cook, Centennial and Jubilee Fields until Wednesday, June 4. The fields need to dry out before use to prevent damage. ![]()

The effort and support to kick off a U10 girls development team and the other work to support girls in soccer - keep it up!
I appreciated the dedication of coaches and managers. Kept the kids and parents engaged.
I wish we had an indoor facility for continuity of programming through out the year.
Inclusive - open to all!
Development coaching was great, kids did well with the games-based approach. Coaching was consistent, adaptable to kids needs, and provided lots of skill development.
I found the coaches included each child in the games. Every child should feel a part of the team and get to play.
